It’s a dark day in video gaming history, as Epic’s Gears of War has finally lost the top spot as most played game on Xbox Live. Here’s Major Nelson’s latest top-10 list for the week of 9/24:

1. Halo 3
2. Gears of War
3. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas
4. Madden NFL 08
5. Call of Duty 4 Beta
6. Guitar Hero II
7. BioShock

xbox360newtech1.jpgMicrosoft has started shipping Xbox 360 consoles with the new 65nm CPU technology that uses less power and runs cooler.

A user on the Xbox forum purchased a Halo3 Xbox 360 that came with the highly anticipated improved technology.
Whether or not these new Xbox 360s will run more stable and have less failures is not clear yet.
The Xbox 360 consoles with the 65nm CPU technology are apparently not marked as new on the outside, which I think is really an issue for consumers.
The chances are good that these new Xbox 360 consoles will run more stable and they apparently save 30% of energy. Like with the HDMI feature Microsoft should openly mark the new generation of Xbox 360 boxes to be clearly identifiable by customers.

The Halo legend continues with the release of the third and final game in the Halo series, and fans confirmed that the anticipation was not just marketing hype by spending $45-million (about R309-million) more on the game at it’s launch than at Halo 2.

The game is developed purely for Microsoft’s Xbox by Bungie Studiosand a stream of improvements and unique features to the first-person shooter has brought a smile to fan’s faces.”In South Africa we broke pre-order records and we are selling out here at rAge,” said Cindy White, who heads up marketing for the Xbox in South Africa, at the Xbox 360 stand at the rAage expo. Note: This series intends to follow my day-to-day events as they occur in the Microsoft-exclusive title “Halo 3.” Each entry will divulge important plot details for the game regarding each of its nine missions, as well as tips and tricks to help gamers “Finish the Fight.” With that, it is safe to assume spoilers will lie ahead in the succeeding text. With two missions under my belt, both …Read More

just got my halo 3 and it is an amazing game. I haven’t played a game like it in a while, to see where i found the cheapest check out my blog hopefully you can find yours at such a great discounts.

Halo3 Battle

The game is devoid of the nuance that made the campaigns of the first two great. Afterall, they don’t intend for you to figure anything out, they plan on telling you if you just wait 30 seconds. It’s almost like they felt the game was so lacking that they want you to get through it as soon as possible - so you can get to the live game play.

The game flows but only because of the use of directional arrows. The reliance on arrows makes the game less compelling and less satisfying given the complete lack of logical thought required to get through it.

There are some good features that are new but I’m dissapointed overall. The game is addictive but not gripping. Halo 3 is a good game but due to a lack of effort in building in the details, it is a long way from great.

Next Halo Hits March 2007

Microsoft plans for wide-open spring 2007 launch. by Douglass C. Perry

March 30, 2006 - The next Halo is coming in March 2007. According to a Microsoft source who asked to remain anonymous and a second source close to the company, IGN today learned that Microsoft will publish the next Halo game (as predicted in January) in March 2007.

When phoned, Microsoft declined to comment. While the holiday season remains the most important set of months to publish a game, the first calendar quarter of the year is proving to be bigger and more prominent in sales. Microsoft intends to innovate, challenge traditions, and to use its own “playbook” (as Microsoft’s J Allard has said time and again), and slotting Halo 3 (or Halo Forerunners, or whatever April Fool’s gag you choose) in March 2007 is likely to shift consumers’ priorities. That anticipation will overlap with the first few months of Sony’s and Nintendo’s launches, cutting into their building stages, and shifting eyes toward and opening wallets for Xbox 360.

By theoretically shifting Halo to next spring, Microsoft thus allows third-party companies a better chance to shine independently of Bungie’s uber shooter during the fall 2006 season. One must wonder, however, why the game wouldn’t come out simultaneously with the movie, due in summer 2007. But if Halo 3’s
